THE ARTIST

Contemporary artist Federico Leon-de-la-Vega collects beauty from everyday life. Women, ocean, country scenes, chairs, fruits, flowers and other common subjects are usual inspiration for his colorful paintings. Excitement is brought by original points of view and the virtues of simplicity are expanded into large format canvas: a couple of pears, touched by the light coming in through blinders, become an “Intimate Pair”; a golden afternoon makes a romantic palace out of an old adobe cottage. The pleasure of breaking sea waves and other daily instants are suspended  by oil paint.

His career as an industrial designer and entrepreneur in time gave way to artistic inclinations and painting gradually became his full time profession. Initial shows brought commissions from architects and interior designers to produce murals in large homes, restaurants and institutions. Federico has shown in various well-recognized galleries in Mexico City, New York, Miami, San Diego, Guadalajara and other cities. In 2000 he established in Nuevo Vallarta, building his own gallery by the water: the “Estudio-Café”. The building also harbors a chick waterfront restaurant and the artist’s family home. This place has become a meeting ground for other artists and writers, as well as a venue for cultural activities, book presentations, music concerts and artists’ workshops.

Located on the waterfront of the Nuevo Vallarta Marina, Riviera Nayarit, the Estudio-café welcomes patrons and visitors looking for fine art and good food. The restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner 8am to 8pm. While the artist’s studio opens mornings from 10am to 12pm and evenings from 6pm to 8:30pm. Sunday afternoons closed after 12pm.
